Affordable course materials can make a radical difference in students’ persistence and academic success. Yet the adoption of alternative resources has been slow and/or uneven. Valuing the Learning in Low-Income Learners’ Life Experience:
Expanding Credit for Prior Learning at Yes We Must Coalition Member Schools
The Yes We Must Coalition hosted a virtual learning experience for members on Valuing the Learning in Low-Income Learners’ Life Experience: Expanding Credit for Prior Learning at Yes We Must Coalition Member Schools on May 10 and May 24, 2022. The workshop was facilitated by Michelle Navarre Cleary, Director of Learning in Public at College Unbound, who provided rich resources for developing rigorous opportunities for students to gain credit for past experiences. Teams of 2–6 faculty and staff members from 9 member schools identified short and longer-term opportunities for developing or expanding credit for prior learning at their institution that will advance their institution’s teaching and learning goals, support learner retention and success, and advance equity. The workshop allowed participants to meet colleagues at Yes We Must Coalition member schools who share common goals and contexts for advancing success of all students and stimulate collaborative work on CPL strategies.
